Source for Books

Posted in Books, Discounts, Kids, Products, Resource, Stores by jboyko on the August 14, 2006

For our family, the fall leading into winter is jam packed with birthdays followed by the holidays. I am trying to get a head start on gift buying this year. One internet source I have found particularly great for kids books is Bookcloseouts.com. I just bought a stash of great kids book for some of the upcoming birthdays. For instance, my son loves the book, “Little Quack’s Hide and Seek”. A nice hardcover version is $5.99 marked down from a list price of $14.95 (and $10.17 at Amazon). They also have a good selection of softcover books, board books, and coloring/activity books for even less. I bought a box of various books for gifts and got 17 great kids books for $74.83 plus $6.95 shipping. You can also pick up inexpensive books or coloring books here to use in lieu of goody bags at kids parties.

Any other great gift resources in the local area or on-line? I could really use some new suggestions!

Two Deals at Target

Posted in Discounts, Kids, Products, Stores by jboyko on the August 11, 2006

I was in Target (in Cherry Hill) today and saw two deals I thought
worth mentioning. First they have swim diapers on clearance. They
were a couple of dollars off the regular prices. If you still have
swim classes into the fall, they might be worth checking out. They
seemed to have a variety of sizes and brands. They were on an end cap
by the pharmacy.

The other deal was a cartridge for the Leapster, if you have a child
into such things. They had the Letter Factory cartridge, regularly
$24.95 on sale for $6.22 in another clearance aisle just past the toy
section toward the back of the store. I picked one up for my son for
his birthday. He loves the Leapster.

If you spot any good deals out there, please share.

Community

Morning everyone. I am proud to report that Stone Soup DC now gets around 150-200 hits a day. Very cool.

I am glad people are finding the information useful, at least I hope you are. I believe one of the best resources anywhere and anytime, is community. We can make this resource so much more powerful if we pull together our information and ideas. Anything from what’s on sale this week, to a great store you’ve found, to free/cheap community events, to how to make something yourself that you would have previously purchased. That’s what we all want to hear. I am sure each one of you has ideas to add. Please consider joining the Yahoo discussion group, posting a comment on the blog, or even sending me an email at stonesoupdc@gmail.com. I want to hear from you!

Have you all heard the story of Stone Soup? I’ve added some stones. Anyone out there have some cabbage or carrots or an onion?

FLOR carpet tile sale

Posted in Home, Products, Sales by jboyko on the July 27, 2006

I’ve been looking at getting some of the FLOR carpet tiles for our play area at home. My son’s preschool has them in their circle time area and they seem to clean up well and have withstood lots of little feet. They aren’t as soft as a nice rug, but they are highly configurable and seem tough. Anyway, FLOR sent an ad this week announcing 15% off everything. They did have a sale acouple of months ago where everything was 25%, so another better deal may come along, but if you are in the market now, code “15%sumsale” will save you 15%. Happy shopping!

Space Saver

Posted in Products by jboyko on the July 26, 2006

This is more of a space saver than a money saver, but these Snap Saver containers are great for a small kitchen. With my old set of containers, I was constantly battling containers of various sizes and with loose lids falling out at me when I opened my kitchen cabinets, plus the various shapes and sizes I had stored very inefficiently.

These Snap Saver containers stack neatly with lids tucked inside the stack (they actually snap to the bottom of their mate bowls so they don’t get lost). I’ve had my set for about two years now and I haven’t lost a bowl or lid and they are so easy to store. They are kind of pricey, but I haven’t had to buy any replacements yet, so I guess over the long haul, they’ve been cost efficient. A couple do show some wear by now from storing/reheating tomatoes sauces and such, but overall they’ve held up well and have not discolored. I have no connection to Snap Saver, I just thought they were a cool product for a small kitchen.

Any great space/money saving products you’ve come along for your kitchen?
