Reminder: MD Tax Holiday Begins Tomorrow

Maryland’s back-to-school tax holiday runs from August 23-27, 2006. Quailified clothing sold in Maryland priced at $100 or less will be exempt from the 5% state sales tax through the weekend. See the Maryland Comptroller site for all the details.

Amazon.com Grocery

For those who like to buy in bulk (and don’t like to go to the
store!), Amazon.com is beta-testing their new grocery site now & you
can get $10 off any purchase of $49 or more through Aug 31st. All
items in their grocery store include free shipping, too, which is
good. What I like about the site is it has some products that are
sometimes hard to find and/or rarely go on sale and/or are difficult
to find in bulk (e.g., McCann’s Irish Oatmeal and Glide floss tape!).
I’ve seen that the level of discounts vary depending on the product,
so pay attention to the % off and make sure you know your prices.

What I haven’t figured out yet is whether you can use this promotion
more than once (I haven’t figured out that you can’t, but I haven’t
tested it yet).

Update: Tax Free Shopping Days

In addition to Virginia’s tax free shopping days, which I listed a couple of days ago, DC and Maryland will also offer tax free shopping days this month. Here is the run-down:

Virginia: Aug. 4 to Aug. 6 for individual school items up to $20 and clothing and footwear up to $100 per item.

DC: Aug. 5 through Aug. 13 for individual items $100 or less.

Maryland: Aug. 23 through Aug. 27, for clothing and footwear up to $100.

Morning everyone. I am proud to report that Stone Soup DC now gets around 150-200 hits a day. Very cool.

I am glad people are finding the information useful, at least I hope you are. I believe one of the best resources anywhere and anytime, is community. We can make this resource so much more powerful if we pull together our information and ideas. Anything from what’s on sale this week, to a great store you’ve found, to free/cheap community events, to how to make something yourself that you would have previously purchased. That’s what we all want to hear. I am sure each one of you has ideas to add. Back to School Tax Free Shopping in VA

Virginia is having a sales tax holiday coming up August 4-6, 2006. The exemption is only for school supplies costing $20 or less per item, and clothing and footwear costing less than $100 per item/pair. Get shopping for back to school early.

FLOR carpet tile sale

I’ve been looking at getting some of the FLOR carpet tiles for our play area at home. My son’s preschool has them in their circle time area and they seem to clean up well and have withstood lots of little feet. They aren’t as soft as a nice rug, but they are highly configurable and seem tough. Anyway, FLOR sent an ad this week announcing 15% off everything. They did have a sale acouple of months ago where everything was 25%, so another better deal may come along, but if you are in the market now, code “15%sumsale” will save you 15%. Happy shopping!
